The major purpose of PAPFAM is to enable the Ministries of Health and other national health institutions in the Arab region to obtain a timely and integrated flow of reliable information suitable for formulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the family health and reproductive health policies and programs in a cost-effective manner.
By the end of the project the following results are expected to be achieved:
- To have developed a family health and reproductive health regional database generated from the various components of PAPFAM;
- To have contributed in identifying the prevalence of longstanding illness and acute sickness among the population, as well as the prevalence of maternal and child morbidity and the cost of health care;
- To have provided, based on the indicators, the health status of the population, as well indicators on “health equity” covering both the equity in the distribution of health care services, and the equality of chances among the population in accessing these health care;
- To have contributed in drawing a health map for the Arab region;
- To have enhanced the technical skills of nationals working in the field of family health and reproductive health surveys and studies;
- To have provided a set of indicators that would help monitor progress of the goals of the ICPD program of action;
- To have increased the awareness of issues related to family health and reproductive health; and To have contributed towards developing a scientific methodology for the assessment of family health and reproductive health programs in the Arab region.
